PROJECT INFORMATION

Riffe
Bullock, NC

The Riffe design began as a sprawling 1st floor design on a basement that would replace an existing home. After some research the original septic system cut through the lot and limited building space. Tony came up with a unique design incorporating single boxes on top of a basement to create a beautiful and large looking house belying the true depth of the house.
The house was broken into two sections creating an L shape design. The private quarters consisted of 2 16 foot wide boxes stacked on top of each other that contained the staircase and dual identical master suites. The common quarters consisted of one 16 foot wide box containing an open kitchen to great room design that utilized cathedral ceilings and large windows to maximize lake views and give the illusion of size to the space. The connecting foyer piece was site built and acted as a buffer between the common and private areas of the house. This design created impressive lake views from every room in the house except the utility room. The stacked master suites also create a large scale to the front look of the house that belies the actual size of the house.
The master suites included large open bedrooms which flowed into generous master baths. Each bedroom opened to a back deck so each family could enjoy coffee on the decks without disturbing the other. The bathrooms contain dual vanities and expansive tile walk-in showers with glass blocks for natural light. The common area starts with the foyer, where the front door opens to views of the lake and spills into the combined kitchen / great room. The kitchen was designed specifically to work around an oversized island that would not only be the main eating space but also provide a common gathering space for the families. The open great room utilizes all the remaining space available, while providing enough glass to enjoy the lake from any angle. A unique design created a beautiful house big enough for two families but small enough to meet a constricting building area.
